Ages 7and up.

No experience is needed for our Beginning Sewing Class! In this class your child will learn how to safely use the sewing machine, as well as all the prep work like cutting, pinning and pressing. Through a variety of fun projects your child will learn how to sew, problem solve, plan and design. The skills gained through this class are the fundamental skills for a life-long sewist. Our projects are all new from last summer so this is a great refresher course for those who have not sewn recently.  Beginning sewing is the pre-requisite for all of our classes making this class a great place to get started.

Skills you will learn:

  • Parts of the sewing machine.
  • How to thread the machine.
  • Spinning a bobbin.
  • How to sew straight, zigzag, curved, backwards stitches.
  • Pivoting.
  • Sewing a seam allowance.
  • Turning a project.
  • Double-turned hems.
  • Hand sewing.
  • And much more.

Projects for this class may include: inside-out pouch, Lanyard, Patchwork Pillow, drawstring bag, apron, small stuffed animal, wallet, buntings etc.

Please send your child with a small snack and water bottle each day.

Mornings can be chilly in our summer climate, please send your child with layers so they are comfortable.

Have your child wear sturdy shoes where the foot is not slipping around for greater foot petal control ( flip flops are highly discouraged).

If you have fabric you would like to use feel free to bring it along. We provide all materials needed for this class and have a good selection of fabric, however bringing a fabric you truly love is a great way to make a project even more memorable. Please keep to quilting weight cottons with no stretch.
